Aucturn, the Stranger is the enigmatic eleventh and farthest planet from Golarion’s sun.
Aucturn is nearly double the size of Golarion but is bathed in a poisonous, yellow-green atmosphere. It is the only world in the system not connected to other planets by a network of portals.3 Aucturn is rarely visible to the naked eye.1 Astronomers have reported differing descriptions of the planet, ranging from a ringed gas giant to a dark and lifeless rock.
The planet warps itself destroying places and making new ones, though some areas remain for some time, including:2
Citadel of the Black, ruled by Carsai the King
The Gravid Mound watched over by the Tower of the Midwives
The Loving Place
Aucturn is populated by strange native creatures: ghostly apparitions, skinless hunters and stranger beasts. There also exists a population of worshippers of the Old Cults seeking the Dark Tapestry, the Great Old Ones and the Outer Gods.2
Other creatures known to exist on Aucturn include:6
Denizens of Leng
Shoggoths, especially at the south pole
Worms That Walk
Every 56 years Golarion and Aucturn’s orbits align such that they are closest to one another, a phase lasting approximately 4 months. Although the gravitational influence is so slight as to go unnoticed by most of Golarion, it excites Golarion’s elementals. In the deserts of Osirion, it causes spike in sandstorm generation resulting in the cyclical uncovering of long-lost ruins.1
Aucturn is the subject of countless legends. Some hint that the planet may be the system’s link to the lightless places between the stars known as the Dark Tapestry or to the mysterious Dominion of the Black whispered in Osirian legend.237 The Pharaoh of Numbers, one of the Four Pharaohs of Ascension responsible for unifying Osirion’s historic empire, was a devotee of the planet Aucturn and thought to be obsessed with study of the planet.1 Others postulate the planet is actually a vast living being in stasis.
In the farthest reaches of space there are creatures of unknowable power, entities whom reality must bend around so as not to disturb or interfere with their existence. Even Gods fear to peer into this Dark Tapestry lest they go mad, a fate that has been visited upon the divine in the past. There are unseen and unknown forces separating the Dark Tapestry from the rest of the known universe and not just through vast distances, information gathered about the Dark Tapestry is not easily retained in the mind. Yet among the matter that makes up the known material plane there exists a vessel through which the the Dark Tapestry leaks. Aucturn ‘The Stranger’ a planet that manages to stay hidden even from minds that have laid eyes upon it, and seems to exist only in a vague sense to to those trying to view it from afar. There are depraved individuals who seek to commune with madness, and Aucturn is where some find themselves.
Beneath the disturbingly fleshy soil of Aucturn pumps veins of black acid sludge that has found blasphemous uses among the occult and depraved adventurers.
